Hayley Okines: Progeria Awareness Activist and Author Dies at 17

Hayley Okines was an English author and activist. Born on December 3, 1997, in Arrington, Cambridgeshire, she had progeria, a rare condition that causes rapid aging.

Doctors had told her family at age two that she was unlikely to live beyond 13. She lived four years longer and co-wrote the autobiography Old Before My Time. She appeared in TV documentaries and traveled to raise awareness.

She met pop singer Justin Bieber in 2010. Okines died in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, on April 2, 2015, at age 17.
