Bob Denver: Gilligan of Gilligan's Island Dies at 70

Bob Denver was an American actor best known as Gilligan on Gilligan's Island. Born on January 9, 1935, in New Rochelle, New York, he taught school before turning to acting.

He first became known as the beatnik Maynard G. Krebs on The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (1959-1963). Gilligan's Island ran on CBS from 1964 to 1967 and became a favorite in reruns. He later starred in The Good Guys and several Gilligan reunion films.

Denver was married twice and had four children. He died of pneumonia, complicating cancer, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on September 2, 2005, at age 70.
