Wendy Richard: Mrs. Slocombe's Assistant and EastEnders' Pauline Fowler

Wendy Richard was an English actress. Born Wendy Emerton on July 20, 1943, in Middlesbrough, she began as a young actress and singer.

She played Miss Shirley Brahms in the sitcom Are You Being Served? from 1972 to 1985 and Pauline Fowler in EastEnders from its debut in 1985 until 2006. Her vocals helped Mike Sarne's song "Come Outside" reach No. 1 in 1962.

She was married four times and had no children. Richard was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002, and the cancer returned. She died at a clinic in London on February 26, 2009, at age 65.

Achievements: Played Pauline Fowler on EastEnders (1985-2006).
